Mancherial labourer wheels ailing mother to MLA's home after hospital wait

A daily-wage labourer took his ailing mother in a wheelchair to a legislator's residence after alleging that a government hospital in Mancherial denied her treatment. The incident occurred late on Tuesday after the family sought care for a kidney-related illness.

Bhukya Raj Kumar had taken his 55-year-old mother from Pulimadugu village to the district government hospital after her condition worsened. He alleged that staff did not give her a bed or begin treatment despite repeated requests.

The family waited for about five hours before leaving the hospital. Raj Kumar then pushed the wheelchair along the road to the residence of Mancherial MLA K Premsagar Rao, reported media.

The two reports placed the distance at about two kilometres. Telangana Today reported that Raj Kumar, accompanied by his wife, pushed the wheelchair for more than one kilometre and reached the MLA's home around midnight.

Raj Kumar's alleged that hospital staff tried to assault him when he questioned them. He accused the hospital of failing to provide proper treatment to his mother on two earlier occasions.

Raj Kumar claimshe had asked the hospital to refer his mother to Karimnagar. He alleged that officials declined and asked him to take her to a private hospital.

Government General Hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr Sridhar went to the MLA's residence after being informed. He persuaded the family to return and admit the woman to the hospital.

Media reports said, the officer assured the family that treatment would be provided. The hospital then arranged a bed, began treatment and promised an inquiry into the alleged negligence.
