UP: Man gets life term for killing wife and son by setting them on fire

A court in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and fined him Rs 1.5 lakh for killing his wife and son by setting them on fire, a prosecution official said on Wednesday, Aug 19.

Additional District Government Counsel K.K. Pandey said the incident took place on the night of June 23, 2022, in Farad Mundera village, under Kaptanganj police station.

Ram Samujh Sahani poured petrol on his wife, Subhavati (30), while she was asleep, along with their daughter Muskan (10) and sons Arun (two and a half) and Ankit, and set them alight before fleeing, Pandey said.

All four suffered serious burn injuries. Subhavati and Arun later died during treatment, he said.

Police registered a case and subsequently filed a chargesheet.

Additional Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) Satyapal Singh convicted Sahani of killing his wife and son on Tuesday, sentencing him to life imprisonment along with the fine, Pandey said.
