Man gets 25-year jail term for abducting, raping 14-year-old girl

A local court has sentenced a man to 25 years in prison for abducting and raping a 14-year-old girl three years ago, a prosecution official said on Wednesday.

Prosecution Officer Vimal Kumar Rai said the girl, who lived in a village under the Dubahar police station area, was allegedly abducted by her neighbour Javed Khan alias Raja, 30, on April 25, 2023. Khan allegedly raped the girl after abducting her.

Following a complaint by the girl's father, police registered a case against Khan under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Rai said.

Police subsequently completed the investigation and filed a charge sheet against Khan before the court.

Special Judge Pratham Kant heard the case and, after considering the arguments presented by both sides, convicted Khan on Tuesday. The court sentenced him to 25 years' imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 40,000, Rai said.  (with inputs from PTI)
