Mamata Banerjee Alleges BJP ‘Plan’ as Party Trails in Bengal Election Results 2026

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party is executing a “plan” to influence perception as counting continues for the 2026 Assembly elections.
In her first public statement during vote counting, the All India Trinamool Congress chief claimed that the BJP was “showing their results first” while delaying or underreporting her party’s performance.
“I had said earlier that they will show their results first and ours later. This is part of their plan,” Banerjee said in a video message, urging party workers and counting agents not to leave counting centres.
According to early trends, the BJP is leading in around 190 seats, while the Trinamool Congress is ahead in nearly 100 seats in the 294-member Assembly.
Banerjee also raised concerns over the counting process, alleging that it had been halted in nearly 100 locations and claiming discrepancies in electronic voting machines in some areas, including Kalyani.
She further criticised the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which removed a significant number of voters, alleging it impacted her party’s prospects.
Despite trailing trends, Banerjee struck a defiant tone, asking party workers to remain patient. “There are many rounds left. We will fight till the end and win after sunset,” she said.
The Trinamool Congress leader also alleged misuse of central forces and accused authorities of suppressing her party, while calling on supporters to stay strong during the counting process.
As counting continues across West Bengal, the final outcome will depend on multiple rounds of tabulation, with several seats still witnessing close contests.
