Maharashtra approves Rs 81.22 cr enhanced flood relief for Palghar, Vasai-Virar

 

The Maharashtra government has approved an enhanced flood compensation package of Rs 81.22 crore for Palghar district and the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation, where torrential rains inundated several areas in July, an official said on Tuesday, August 4.

District Collector Dr Indu Rani Jakhar submitted a detailed proposal that increased relief by Rs 68.40 crore over original norms, and the Relief and Rehabilitation Department released the sanctioned funds via the Budget Distribution System, the official said.

For heavy rainfall between July 1-8 and July 22-24, original compensation was Rs 8.53 crore and Rs 4.27 crore, respectively, and these have been raised to Rs 64.04 crore and Rs 17.16 crore.

The package introduces direct assistance for small businesses, daily earners, and livelihood losses previously excluded from conventional relief, the official said, adding that the district administration would commence transparent disbursement immediately.
