Konkan railway staff saves passenger from moving train, wins ₹10,000 reward

A Konkan Railway employee was honoured with a ₹10,000 cash reward after rescuing a passenger from a near-fatal accident at Murdeshwar Railway Station in Karnataka. The dramatic rescue, captured on CCTV, has gone viral on social media.
Ganapathi Naik, a pointsman with Konkan Railway, sprang into action after spotting a 22-year-old passenger attempting to get off Train No. 16312 while it was still moving. The passenger lost his balance and came dangerously close to falling into the gap between the train and the platform before Naik pulled him to safety within seconds.
Konkan Railway praised Naik's presence of mind and shared the CCTV footage online, calling his actions an example of exceptional alertness that prevented a major tragedy. The Chairman and Managing Director of Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) later presented him with a ₹10,000 reward in recognition of his bravery.
The viral video has drawn widespread appreciation for Naik, while many social media users also criticised the passenger for attempting to alight from a moving train despite repeated railway safety warnings. Several called for stricter penalties to discourage such risky behaviour and improve passenger safety.
