Killing of Sikh couple in Pakistan condemned

BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday condemned the killing of a Sikh couple inside a gurdwara in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and urged the government there to ensure the immediate arrest of the attackers. Describing the incident as “barbaric and deeply disturbing”, the Rajya Sabha MP accused the neighbouring country of failing to protect its minorities.
A Sikh caretaker couple, Jagannath and Asma Wanti, were shot dead inside the gurdwara by unidentified attackers on Wednesday. The incident took place in the Babu Mohallah locality of Mardan, about 60 kilometres northwest of Peshawar.
“I strongly condemn the Pakistan government for failing to protect minorities and their human rights. The incident reflects Pakistan’s callous attitude towards minorities,” Chugh said in a statement.
