Seven-year-old boy killed after speeding tipper lorry hits him in Keralam

A seven-year-old boy was killed after a speeding tipper lorry hit him while he was standing beside his father on the roadside near their home in Nadungapara on Monday, August 24, police said.

The deceased was identified as Joshua Basil, a native of Nadungapara.

Joshua had gone with his father to buy groceries around 9.30 am and was returning home with him when they stopped near a curve on the Kottappadi-Kuruppampady road, a short distance from their house, according to police.

The boy was standing close to his father when the tipper lorry allegedly approached at high speed and struck him. Police said Joshua noticed the vehicle and attempted to move away, but the lorry hit him before he could get out of its path. He died at the spot, while his father escaped unhurt.

Local residents alleged that the stretch of the Kottappadi-Kuruppampady road where the accident occurred is frequently used by tipper lorries, many of which allegedly travel at high speeds.

The boy's body was shifted to a hospital and further proceedings are underway.

A case has been registered and an investigation into the accident has begun, officials added.
