Karnataka to establish separate Public Grievance Secretariat, says CM DK Shivakumar

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday announced that the state government will set up a separate secretariat to address public grievances and demands from citizens across the state. The proposed facility will have a dedicated minister to interact with people visiting Bengaluru with complaints, requests, or issues requiring government intervention.

Speaking after a meeting with senior bureaucrats and police officials, Shivakumar said the new mechanism would help streamline grievance redressal and ensure that concerns raised through protests, agitations, or direct representations are properly heard and addressed. He noted that multiple groups approach the government daily, making a dedicated system necessary.

The Chief Minister also directed all departments to prepare action plans within 15 days and stressed the importance of transparency, accountability, and result-oriented governance. He instructed officials not to succumb to pressure from political leaders or external influences and to function strictly within the framework of the law.

Shivakumar said his government would not tolerate discrimination based on caste or religion and urged officials to work with integrity, conscience, and a positive approach. Emphasising effective governance, he said the administration’s focus would be on delivering measurable results and creating a lasting impact through public service.
