Over 1,300 police personnel deployed for Kanwar Yatra in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh

Adequate arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth Kanwar Yatra in Shahjahanpur of Uttar Pradesh, officials said on Tuesday, July 28.

Kanwariyas collect Ganga water from Panchal Ghat in Farrukhabad before proceeding to Gola Gokarannath for 'jalabhishek' on the Shivling.

Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit told PTI that 1,100 constables, 210 sub-inspectors, 17 inspectors, seven circle officers and 44 motorcycle patrol units have been deployed along the route to ensure the devotees' safety.

"The Kanwar route covers about 90 km in Shahjahanpur. Around 100 CCTV cameras have been installed along the stretch and linked to the district headquarters and Bareilly division control rooms. Besides, 500 barriers have been put up along the route," he said.

Dixit said meetings had been held at the police station level and more than 120 security committees constituted in villages along the route to assist pilgrims and coordinate with the police.

He said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Devendra Kumar has been appointed the officer in-charge of the Kanwar Yatra.

Special attention is being paid to the sensitive police station areas of Allahganj and Kant to prevent any untoward incidents, the SP added.
