JNTUH Students Clash Over Alleged Remarks Against Female Student, 3 Cases Filed

Two groups of engineering students clashed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTUH) campus, following which three cases were registered, police said on Friday.

According to police, the students staying in the university hostels first clashed around 9 pm on Thursday. The confrontation broke out again after midnight and continued into the early hours of Friday.

The repeated clashes were followed by a protest by students outside the university gate. Police personnel reached the campus and brought the situation under control.

Both groups allegedly assaulted each other and used sticks during the clashes. Police identified 19 students allegedly involved in the incident, took them into custody and subsequently issued notices to them, a police official said.

One student sustained injuries in the clashes and was admitted to a hospital for treatment.

Police said the dispute reportedly began after a student allegedly made inappropriate remarks about a female student. She subsequently informed another male student, leading to a verbal confrontation between the two.

The argument later escalated into a physical fight involving other students from the two groups, police said.

Three FIRs have been registered at the KPHB Police Station in connection with the incident. Two cases were filed based on complaints and counter-complaints submitted by the rival student groups, while the third was registered after police personnel were allegedly obstructed during the student protest.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
