Jharkhand CID arrests 11th accused in JSSC CGL exam irregularities case

Jharkhand Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested another person in connection with alleged irregularities in the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) examination conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC), an official said on Tuesday.

With the arrest of Rajan Kumar in Bihar, the CID has now apprehended 11 people in connection with the alleged irregularities in the JSSC-CGL examination-2023, which was held the following year.

Kumar, a resident of a village under the Newara police station area of Patna district, was arrested on Monday, the official said.

“The accused took several JSSC-CGL aspirants to a hotel at Niyamatpur in West Bengal, and made them memorise the questions and answers of the examination,” he said.

Several candidates allegedly gained an undue advantage through the process, with some eventually clearing the examination, the official said.

Among the 10 other accused arrested in the case are four successful candidates of the JSSC-CGL examination. The CID has also arrested key accused Abhay Tiwari, along with his wife and brother.

The arrests come after the Jharkhand government on August 17 announced the cancellation of several recruitment examinations, including JSSC-CGL-2023, following protests by job aspirants over alleged irregularities.

However, the Jharkhand High Court stayed the government’s decision after successful candidates approached the court, fearing that cancellation of the examination would cost them their jobs.

A Special Investigation Team of the Jharkhand CID is probing the alleged irregularities in the examination.

Job aspirants had staged protests in Ranchi for several days last month, demanding action over the alleged anomalies in the recruitment examination.
