Jharkhand BJP welcomes SC Notice on exam probe plea
The Jharkhand BJP on Monday, August 24, welcomed the Supreme Court's notice to the Centre and the state government on a plea seeking a time-bound CBI probe into alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.
State BJP president Aditya Sahu said the development had raised hopes of justice among students. "The truth behind all misdeeds of the state government will now come to light, and lakhs of youths will secure their rights. The Hemant Soren government must stop making excuses and answer why it is shying away from a CBI inquiry," Sahu said in a statement.
The Supreme Court on Monday, August 24, had issued notices to the Centre and the state government on a plea seeking an independent, time-bound CBI investigation into alleged malpractices in the Jharkhand Combined Civil Services Preliminary Examination.
"The battle for the students' rights and their future has now reached the country's apex court. The government has cheated the job aspirants. The CID investigation is merely an eyewash," Sahu added.
He further alleged that police and ruling-party workers had beaten students, and that false cases had been lodged against protesting job aspirants, according to his statement.
Police have lodged FIRs against 53 named and more than 1,100 unnamed people in connection with clashes between police and protesting job aspirants in Ranchi, Giridih and Hazaribag on Friday evening, officials said.
The JMM-led government has cancelled 22 examinations and ordered a probe into 23 others conducted since 2014 by the state public service commission and an outsourced agency, amid the ongoing agitation.
However, the Jharkhand High Court on August 21 stayed notifications cancelling the appointments of Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) and those recruited through the JSSC-CGL examination.
On August 20, the court had also stayed notifications cancelling the 11th and 13th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examinations, besides staying the order cancelling the appointments of food safety officers.
