IndiGo issues travel advisory as rain, thunderstorms disrupt flight operations in Delhi

IndiGo on Monday issued a travel advisory for passengers after adverse weather conditions disrupted flight operations in Delhi amid a red alert for thunderstorms and rainfall issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In a statement, the airline said flight schedules were being impacted due to inclement weather and advised passengers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.
The airline acknowledged that extended waiting times on the ground and onboard aircraft could cause inconvenience and assured travellers that its crew and ground staff were working to assist affected passengers.
The advisory came as Delhi witnessed a sudden change in weather, with a dust storm, strong winds and rainfall sweeping across several parts of the national capital.
The IMD issued a red alert for Delhi, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds ranging from 70 to 90 kmph. According to weather officials, Palam recorded wind speeds of up to 92 kmph during the afternoon.
Authorities have advised residents to remain indoors during severe weather conditions, avoid sheltering under trees, and stay away from electric poles and waterlogged areas.
Meteorologists attributed the weather activity to a western disturbance affecting northwestern India. While conditions are expected to improve gradually from Tuesday, another western disturbance may bring fresh rainfall to the region later this week.
Passengers travelling through Delhi airport have been advised to monitor airline updates and allow extra travel time due to possible delays and operational disruptions.
