Indian Long Jumper M Sreeshankar qualifies for Commonwealth Games long jump final

Indian long jumper M Sreeshankar advanced to the Commonwealth Games long jump final Monday, July 27, clearing the qualifying mark on his first attempt.

Sreeshankar, whose season's best is 8.38 meters, jumped 8.01 meters to secure direct qualification from Group A. The qualifying standard was set at 8 meters or the top 12 performers.

The 27-year-old is seeking to improve on the silver medal he won at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Sreeshankar is focused to make comeback after a ruptured patellar tendon, a career-threatening knee injury, sidelined him in April 2024 and required surgery. The injury cost him a highly anticipated Olympic debut in Paris.

He posted his season-best mark last month at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar.

Fellow Indian long jumper Lokesh Sathyanathan is also competing in the event and was scheduled to compete in Group B later Monday, July 27.

Meanwhile, the final is set for July 29.
