India rejects Erdogan's Kashmir references at UNGA as unwarranted

New Delhi: India on Tuesday rejected references to Jammu and Kashmir in Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's address to the United Nations General Assembly. The Ministry of External Affairs called the references "unwarranted" and said no external party has any locus standi on the issue.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal was asked at his briefing how India viewed Mr Erdogan's remarks. The Turkish President had said all disputes in South Asia, including Kashmir, should be settled through dialogue within the framework of the UN Charter.

"India rejects unwarranted references to India and the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir made by the president of Turkiye during his UNGA address," Mr Jaiswal said. "This is a matter about India's territorial integrity and sovereignty, and no external party has any locus standi on this issue."

India has said in the past that Jammu and Kashmir is, was and will remain an integral part of the country.
