Hyderabad police arrests IPS trainee accused in sexual assault case

A trainee IPS officer, identified as Uday Krishna Reddy accused of sexually assaulting a woman co-trainee at the SVPNPA here, was questioned by police on Thursday, August 6, after being taken into custody.

A local court on Wednesday, August 5, granted the police two days' custody of the accused, who was arrested in the case and remanded to judicial custody on July 29.

He was booked on July 18 on charges of sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking and attempt to murder following a complaint lodged by a fellow trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy.

Police had sought seven days' custody of the accused for further interrogation, but the court granted only two days.

The accused was taken into police custody from jail and questioned, official sources said.

The 33-year-old trainee IPS officer, a native of Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district, had previously served as a police constable.

He joined the 2025 IPS batch after clearing the UPSC examination and has been undergoing training at the SVPNPA since December 2025.

According to police, the accused came into contact with the victim through social media in mid-2025 after she responded to his post about his journey to joining the Indian Police Service.

After exchanging contact details and developing a rapport through conversations about his humble background, the two entered into a relationship, police said.

Police alleged that throughout their training at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration and the SVPNPA, the relationship was marked by frequent arguments, emotional manipulation, possessiveness and volatile behaviour on the part of the accused.

According to police, he repeatedly threatened to die by suicide, displayed weapons, insulted the woman and harassed her by damaging her laptop, creating fake social media accounts after being blocked, threatening to release private chats, and contacting her family members and colleagues without her consent.

"Unable to bear his behaviour, the affected person ended the relationship and later married another person," police said.

Police alleged that after learning about her marriage, the accused continued to harass her.

Police said the accused also committed various other offences alleged by the affected person and supported by statements from other witnesses.

In her complaint, the woman trainee IPS officer also alleged that the accused wrongfully restrained her, forcibly took her to his room, grabbed her by the hair, attempted to strangle her and held a knife to her neck.

Following the complaint, the Attapur police registered a case against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, police said.
