Hyderabad medical student found dead in Miyapur hotel, male friend missing

A 27-year-old postgraduate medical student was found dead in a hotel room in Hyderabad’s Miyapur area on Friday, days after she checked in with a male friend, police said.
The deceased was identified as K Srijana, a native of Sangareddy district. She was pursuing postgraduate studies in paediatrics at a medical college in Hanamkonda.
According to police, Srijana came to Hyderabad on September 30 after her male friend, identified as Ravi, allegedly called her to discuss the return of a gold chain. The two checked into a hotel in the Miyapur area.
Police said Ravi checked out of the hotel on October 1 and has remained untraceable since.
Srijana’s family became concerned after they were unable to contact her and approached the police. Her mobile phone location was traced to the hotel, where police found her body on a bed in a decomposed condition.
Srijana’s father, K Bhumayya, lodged a complaint alleging that his daughter had been murdered. Based on the complaint, Miyapur police registered a murder case.
Police said there were no obvious external injury marks on the body during the preliminary examination. The body was sent for post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Investigators are searching for Ravi and examining CCTV footage and other evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events inside the hotel. Police said Srijana and Ravi had known each other since their MBBS days in Mahabubnagar.
The incident comes days after another woman was found dead in a hotel room in Hyderabad’s SR Nagar. On September 29, 34-year-old B Sirisha, a bank customer-care executive from Vikarabad district, was found dead at a hotel where she had been staying with her partner, A Srinivas.
According to police, Sirisha had checked into the hotel with Srinivas on September 24. The two allegedly used false names and identity documents while checking in. Police said Srinivas left the hotel hours before Sirisha’s body was discovered and subsequently went missing. A murder case was registered and a search was launched for him.
Police are continuing to investigate both cases separately. In Srijana’s case, the post-mortem report and further investigation are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
