HM Amit Shah reviews J&K flood situation, assures full central support for relief efforts

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday reviewed the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir and held separate discussions with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to assess the impact of the heavy rains and ongoing rescue operations. He assured the Union Territory of all possible assistance from the Centre.

Shah said he had spoken with both leaders to take stock of the damage caused by flash floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the Rajouri and Poonch districts. He emphasised that the Centre was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating relief and rescue measures.

The Home Minister directed officials to ensure that affected residents receive immediate assistance and that all necessary resources are made available for rescue, evacuation and rehabilitation efforts. He also assured that the Union government stands firmly with the people of Jammu and Kashmir during the crisis.

The floods have claimed at least 11 lives, while several people remain missing. Rescue operations involving the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police and other agencies are underway in the worst-hit areas. The Amarnath and Vaishno Devi pilgrimages have also been temporarily suspended due to the adverse weather conditions.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who had travelled to New Delhi for political engagements, cut short his visit and returned to Jammu and Kashmir to personally oversee relief operations in the affected districts.
