Harjit Grewal assumes office as chairman of National Commission for Minorities

Harjit Singh Grewal has assumed office as the Chairman of the National Commission for Minorities on 21st July, 2026. His appointment marks the beginning of a renewed commitment towards promoting the welfare, inclusion, empowerment, and socio-economic development of minority communities. On his arrival at the Commission, he was warmly welcomed by Joint Secretary Dr AtyaNand and senior officers of the Commission.

Harjit Singh Grewal is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He previously served as the State Vice President of the BJP Punjab unit. With extensive experience in public life and organizational leadership, he has been actively involved in promoting social harmony, public welfare, and inclusive development. He played a pivotal role in handling farmer protests crisis and served as a bridge between the Central Government and the protesting farmer unions.

S Munawari Begum, member NCM, assumed office as the Vice Chairperson of the Commission on 20th July, 2026. She has served as the Vice President of the BJP Minority Morcha. With extensive experience in public service, she is expected to play a pivotal role in advancing the Commission’s mandate of protecting minority rights, promoting equal opportunities, and strengthening inclusive governance. She previously held the position of Vice-Chairperson for the Haj Committee of India.

The Commission has also welcomed Glenn Souza Ticlo, who assumed office as a member representing the Christian community on 21st July, 2026.

Berjis Desai joined the National Commission for Minorities on 10th March, 2026 as the Member representing the Parsi community.
