Gulveer Singh wins 5000m bronze to complete Asian Games medal hat-trick

India's Gulveer Singh added a bronze in the men's 5000m to his medal tally at the Asian Games here on Tuesday, completing a hat-trick of podium finishes at the continental event.

Gulveer clocked 13:32.75 to finish third, following his silver-medal performances in the men's 1500m and 10,000m earlier in the Games.

The achievement made Gulveer only the second Indian man to win three track and field medals in a single edition of the Asian Games.

Lavy Pinto had achieved the feat at the inaugural Asian Games in New Delhi in 1951, winning gold in the 100m and 200m and silver in the 4x100m relay.

Among Indian women, PT Usha won four gold medals and a silver at the 1986 Seoul Asian Games, while middle-distance runner KM Beenamol won three medals at the 2002 Busan edition.

Gulveer, India's national record holder in the men's 5000m, has been in strong form across international competitions.

Earlier this year, he won a historic bronze in the men's 5000m at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the event at the Games.

He also won gold at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea, last year.
