Govt marks PM’s birthday with blood donation, 1.25 lakh lamps

The Rekha Gupta Government celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday in a novel way, focusing on welfare by holding blood donation camps, lighting of diyas, an organ donation campaign with the chief minister pledging her organs and inaugurating a rest area for gig workers. 

The occasion also marked religious ceremonies, including the chief minister participating in a yajna, and over 1.25 lakh ‘Aashirwad Ka Diya (lamps of blessing)’ illuminated the Kartavya Path. 

Two special songs were also launched. The first song was prepared and sung by the students of Delhi Government schools and the second was composed by a group of youth from Delhi involved in imparting training in music.

After performing 108 kundiya hawan at Khatu Shyam temple, GT Karnal Road in the morning, for the long and healthy life of the Prime Minister, the chief minister inaugurated the ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ and a Gig Workers’ Rest Area in Shalimar Bagh on the occasion of Vishwakarma Day. Delhi Labour Minister Shri Kapil Mishra and a large number of workers were present at the programme. The Chief Minister also interacted with the workers and heard their experiences and suggestions.

The ‘Namo Shramik Seva Kendra’ will function as a facilitation centre for workers, where necessary assistance related to various Government services and worker welfare schemes will be available at a single location. A Gig Workers’ Rest Area was also inaugurated during the programme.

The chief minister also launched its first official portal and platform for organ donation and pledged to donate various body parts as its very first organ donor. The State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) has signed an MoU with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) to promote organ donation in the national Capital.  Officials said people can scan a QR code on the portal to register their pledge and generate an organ or tissue donation pledge certificate.

A city-wide blood donation camp was organized at, with thousands of Delhi residents participating throughout the day. BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Union Minister of State and Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra, along with Delhi Government ministers, among those who donated blood at the camp. A total of 2,080 units of blood were collected at the camp, according to a statement issued by the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office.  Nitin Nabin donated blood at Chandni Chowk. As many as 391 Delhi Police personnel, ranging from Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) to constable, donated blood at Thyagaraj Stadium.

Later, the chief minister joined the public in lighting an ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya’ at Kartavya Path, which was illuminated with around 1.25 lakh earthen lamps. The words ‘Ashirwad Ka Diya’ were formed using multiple clay lamps, which were lit by the chief minister, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj, NDMC Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal and members of the public. MP Praveen Khandelwal organised a special “Aashirwad Ka Diya” programme below the ramparts of the historic Red Fort on Thursday evening, lighting 76 diyas. A special 1.50-foot-high diya, after which the remaining diyas were illuminated one after another.

At the Tahirpur Leprosy Complex, the Department of Social Welfare organised its own version of the campaign, where Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh and North-East Delhi MP Manoj Tiwari joined leprosy-affected residents, volunteers and social workers to light 2,000 diyas and wish the Prime Minister a long and healthy life. A floral rangoli bearing the message “Heartiest Wishes on 76th Birthday” was illuminated with hundreds of diyas.

The day’s observances were anchored by the Delhi BJP’s month-long “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan 2026, Jan Seva Hi Prabhu Seva Hai,” which began Thursday with blood donation camps in the morning across all 14 Delhi BJP districts, followed by “Ashirwad Ke Diye” lit in the evening at the State Office, district offices and 20 iconic locations across the city, including India Mandapam.

At Red Fort Ground, Union Minister Virendra Kumar distributed assistive devices to persons with disabilities at a programme organised by Khandelwal. Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal lit lamps at 20 iconic locations across the city. MPs Manoj Tiwari, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, Yogendra Chandolia, Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Bansuri Swaraj, along with all 48 MLAs, participated in blood donation camps in their constituencies in the morning and joined diya-lighting programmes in the evening, while district presidents across Chandni Chowk, Keshavpuram, Shahdara, West Delhi, Najafgarh, Mehrauli, South Delhi, Outer Delhi, North West, Karol Bagh and New Delhi districts lit diyas at their respective offices.
