Clean energy must be affordable for all, says Adani after meeting Michael Bloomberg in Delhi

New Delhi, October 14: The energy transition must be reliable and affordable for ordinary citizens or it will fail, Gautam Adani, chairman of the Adani Group said after meeting Michael R. Bloomberg in the capital, in a first-person account of their discussion.
The meeting took place at a New Delhi hotel a day after Bloomberg addressed the Bloomberg New Economy Forum. The eighth edition of the forum is being held in New Delhi from October 13 to 15, the first time it is hosted in India. Bloomberg, founder of Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies, spoke of India’s momentum in artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing and green infrastructure. Bloomberg marks 30 years of work in India this year.
Adani said emerging economies need baseload power, industrial capacity and digital access without delay, while mature markets stress the pace of decarbonisation. Both, he said, agree that clean energy and affordability must move together.
The two also discussed the redevelopment of Dharavi in Mumbai, which he said should be judged by climate-resilient homes, sanitation, power and protected livelihoods, not built-up area.
He named four requirements for nation-building: patient capital, physical execution, transparent governance and capable local leadership.
