Four militants arrested in Manipur

Four militants belonging to different proscribed outfits and involved in recruiting new cadres and extortion have been arrested from Manipur's valley districts, police said on Sunday, July 26.
Two militants -- Mutum Seitaraj Singh (31) and Thounaojam Rakesh Meitei (35) -- were arrested at Thoubal Bazar for recruiting cadres for UNLF (P) on Saturday, July 25, an official said.
UNLF (P) signed a peace pact with the Centre in 2023. However, their cadres continue to be arrested for multiple unlawful activities including extortion and sale of illegal arms.
The official said two active cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) were apprehended from different parts of Imphal.
Yaikhom Abhinash Meetei (26) was arrested from Kongpal Khongkham Leikai in Imphal East district while Urikhinbam Malemnganba (30) was arrested from Thongju Part-II in Imphal West district, he said.
Besides the arrest, security forces recovered a rifle, a locally made pump gun, an improvised mortar shell and an IED along with nine live rounds from Shangkai and Mongkot Chepu villages and their surrounding areas in Ukhrul district.
