Four men arrested over viral video showing assault on students and women during CJP protest

Delhi Police have arrested four men in connection with a viral video that allegedly shows students being assaulted and women pushed and hit during the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest in the national capital on Saturday.

The incident took place on DDU Marg, under the jurisdiction of Kamla Market police station, as protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar were met with heavy security restrictions across Delhi.

The accused have been identified as Raman Saini, Vivekanand alias Vivek, Kapil Kumar and Ravinder Singh alias Govind Hindu. According to a senior police official, the four men claimed links to the right-wing group Hindu Raksha Dal.

Police began investigating after footage of the alleged assault circulated on social media on Saturday. Officers reportedly identified the location and traced the suspects before making the arrests, even though no formal complaint had initially been filed.

The video appears to show men hitting and pushing protesters, including women, on a public road. A police officer is also reportedly visible at the scene.

The arrests come amid reports of assaults on protesters and journalists at several locations in Delhi during the CJP demonstration. The party had called for the protest to demand the removal of Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
