Four killed in lightning strikes across Jharkhand

Four people, including two women, were killed in separate lightning strikes in Jharkhand's Hazaribag and Chatra districts on Thursday, Aug 7th police said.

Three of the deaths were reported from Hazaribag, while one person was killed in neighbouring Chatra, officials said.

A couple, Basudev Mahto, 51, and his wife Duliya Devi, 48, died after lightning struck them while they were working in a paddy field in Kanchanpur village under Katkamsandi police station limits, Hazaribag DSP (Headquarters) Gayan Ranjan said.

In another incident in Hazaribag, Baswa Devi, 50, was killed in Choutha village under Barkatha police station limits, officer-in-charge Ashish Kumar said.

In Chatra district, Pawan Kumar Mahto, 25, died after being struck by lightning while travelling from Kalyanpur Market to Hafua village under Piparwar police station limits, officer-in-charge Prashant Mishra said.

Police said further details were being ascertained.
