Encounter erupts near tourist hub in Kashmir’s Budgam

A fresh encounter broke out between a joint team of security personnel and a group of terrorists near a famous tourist spot in the Yusmarg area of Central Kashmir district of Budgam late on Thursday evening.

Ground reports said gunshots were reportedly heard during an ongoing cordon and search operation launched by the security forces following reports of the presence of terrorists in the area. A group of two to three terrorists are believed to have been trapped by the security forces in the forest belt of Yusmarg.

To plug gaps, additional reinforcements were rushed to the area to maintain a tight cordon during the night. Till the time of filing the report, the security forces were maintaining a tight cordon in the general area to prevent the escape of the terrorists pinned down in the area.

The security forces are expected to resume anti-terrorist operations at first light.

In Jammu, a Pakistani intruder was apprehended by the Border Security Force (BSF) along the International Border in the Kanachak sector.

Officials said the intruder was apprehended by personnel of 44 BSF Battalion near Border Outpost (BOP) Sohan in the morning hours.
