Eight vehicles damaged as parking wall collapses in south Delhi

A wall of a private parking facility collapsed amid heavy rain in the Deoli area, damaging eight vehicles, an official said on Saturday, Aug 8.

The incident took place around 5 p.m. on Friday in South Delhi's Nai Basti when the wall suddenly gave way during rainfall and fell on vehicles parked inside the facility.

A Delhi Fire Service official said no person was inside any of the affected vehicles at the time of the incident and no casualties were reported.

Residents said the wall collapsed with a loud noise. Afterwards, people rushed to the spot and found several vehicles buried under the rubble.

According to residents, sewer pipeline work was underway in the area.

Residents raised concerns that the ongoing work, coupled with heavy rainfall, may have weakened the ground around the structure. However, the exact cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained.

Officials also mentioned that the heavy rain on Friday lashed Delhi-NCR caused widespread waterlogging and led to several complaints of wall and house collapses across the national capital.

Officials said the damaged vehicles were being assessed and the debris was being cleared from the site.
