Eastern Railway cancels two Rajdhani Express trains from Kolkata over Delhi traffic congestion

Eastern Railway on Friday cancelled two Rajdhani Express trains originating from Kolkata, citing anticipated severe road traffic congestion around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations on October 10.

The 12301 Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express and the 12313 Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, scheduled to depart on Friday and reach the national capital on Saturday morning, will not operate, an Eastern Railway official said in a statement.

The cancellations follow a Railway Board advisory citing anticipated road traffic congestion between New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations. The Board said certain Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at the stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10 could be affected.

The disruption comes as the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has announced a protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
