DU releases sports quota seat matrix, 2,153 seats for 2026-27

With the second phase of the University of Delhi’s undergraduate admission process underway, the educational institution on Monday released the discipline-wise matrix for admissions under the Sports Supernumerary Quota for the 2026-27 academic session, offering 2,153 seats across 28 disciplines.

According to the seat matrix, 1,119 seats have been earmarked for men and 1,034 for women across Delhi University’s colleges. Admissions under the quota will be offered in 28 sports, including athletics, badminton, basketball, cricket, football, hockey, shooting, swimming, table tennis, volleyball and wrestling.

Among the sports which have secured the highest number of seats are cricket with 192 seats (157 for men and 35 for women), followed by volleyball with 222 seats (117 men and 105 women), basketball with 206 seats (103 each for men and women), athletics with 151 seats (59 men and 92 women), and football with 195 seats (140 men and 55 women).

The breakdown also provides college-wise distribution of seats for each sport. Colleges such as Hansraj College, Hindu College, Ramjas College, Miranda House, Shri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Sri Venkateswara College and several others have seats across multiple disciplines.

The release of the sports seat matrix comes as candidates participating in Phase II of the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG) are filling their programme and college preferences before the commencement of seat allocation.

“Candidates desirous of taking admission to Undergraduate Programme under the sports quota must appear in CUET (UG) — 2026. For admissions to ECA and Sports supernumerary seats, a weightage of 25 per cent will be given to CUET(UG)-2026 score and 75 per cent to certificates/trials/performances,” according to the DU bulletin of information.

Admissions under the quota are conducted separately from the regular merit-based process and are based on a combination of sports achievements and performance in sports trials, along with eligibility requirements prescribed by the university.

With the second phase of the University of Delhi’s undergraduate admission process now underway, several colleges have begun organising counselling and outreach programmes to help aspirants navigate the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS), prepare their course preferences and resolve admission-related queries.

Among them, Miranda House is holding a three-day Open House Session (Phase II) from Monday to Wednesday, while Hansraj College has launched a two-day ‘Hansraj Campus Connect’ programme for prospective students and their parents.

Miranda House said the Open House, to be held daily from 10 am to 1 pm at the college campus, is aimed at helping Class 12 girl students and their parents understand various aspects of the admission process.

Faculty members and admission experts will guide participants on preparing CSAS course preference lists, admissions under the Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) and Sports quotas, certificate courses, hostel facilities and other admission-related matters, the college said.

Students will also have an opportunity to interact with faculty members during question-and-answer sessions to seek clarification on individual queries.  The college has made prior online registration mandatory for attendance, with up to 500 students and their parents to be accommodated each day.

Miranda House Principal Bijayalaxmi Nanda said the initiative reflects the college’s commitment to ensuring that every aspiring student receives reliable guidance during the admission process. She urged eligible students and their parents to make use of the opportunity to interact with faculty members and prepare their preference lists with confidence.

Meanwhile, Hansraj College on Sunday launched its two-day “Hansraj Campus Connect” programme to familiarise prospective students with the undergraduate admission process and campus life.

The programme features a free admission help desk to answer students’ queries, provide information on academic programmes and admission procedures, and conduct guided tours of the college campus for students and their parents.
