DK Shivakumar elected Karnataka CLP leader, set to become next Karnataka Chief Minister

Congress leader DK Shivakumar was formally elected as the leader of the Karnataka Congress Legislature Party (CLP) during a key meeting held in Bengaluru on Saturday, clearing the way for him to become the next Chief Minister of Karnataka. His name was proposed during the meeting and received unanimous support from party legislators and senior leaders.

The leadership transition comes after Siddaramaiah stepped down as Chief Minister following the Congress high command's decision. Party leaders said there was no uncertainty over the choice, with the CLP expected to unanimously endorse Shivakumar's leadership. Several Congress leaders expressed confidence that he would lead the party into the next phase of governance in the state.

Shivakumar indicated that the swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place on June 3. According to party insiders, the new government is expected to include two Deputy Chief Ministers, with discussions on cabinet formation and key portfolios set to begin soon after the official announcement.

The development marks a significant political milestone for Shivakumar, who has long been one of the Congress party's most influential leaders in Karnataka and played a crucial role in strengthening the party's organisation across the state.
