Delhi schools shift online, colleges postpone exams ahead of October 10 protest

Several schools and colleges in Delhi have shifted classes online, cancelled activities, rescheduled parent-teacher meetings and postponed examinations scheduled for Saturday, October 10, amid security restrictions ahead of a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar.
Sardar Patel Vidyalaya has shifted classes for students from Classes 6 to 12 online, citing extensive barricading in New Delhi and concerns over student safety. The school has also discontinued its stay-back facility for Friday and postponed the inauguration of its Activity Week, with a revised date to be announced later.
Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School has rescheduled its parent-teacher meeting, while Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya has cancelled sports day practice and enrichment classes for students of Classes 9 to 12 scheduled for Saturday.
Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering in Paschim Vihar has postponed its mid-term examinations from October 10 to October 12, with timings unchanged. Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology in Rohini has also rescheduled its examinations to October 12.
The decisions come after Delhi Police sought restrictions at 57 metro stations ahead of the proposed demonstration. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation announced on Friday that entry and exit gates at the identified stations would be closed from 9 pm until further notice, with interchange facilities available at most affected stations.
The protest has been called by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, with demonstrators demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The proposed restrictions have raised concerns over commuting and access to central Delhi during the demonstration.
