Delhi Police holds interstate coordination meet to bolster security

Delhi Police on Wednesday held an interstate coordination meeting with senior police officers from 11 States and Union Territories to finalise a joint security strategy and strengthen intelligence sharing ahead of Independence Day celebrations.

The meeting, chaired by Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar, was attended by senior police officers from Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, and Chandigarh. Senior officers from the central intelligence and enforcement agencies also took part in the meeting held at the Delhi Police headquarters.

The meeting focused on ensuring incident-free Independence Day celebrations through enhanced coordination among law enforcement agencies, officials said.

“The meeting was attended by special commissioners of police heading the Law and Order, Special Cell, Traffic, Protective Security Division, Crime, Transport and Intelligence units, besides other senior officers,” a senior police official said.

During the meeting, officers shared intelligence inputs and reviewed anti-terror measures, including strengthening border checks, verification of suspicious persons and preventive security measures.

Discussions also covered monitoring and regulation of paragliders, drones and other flying objects in open areas as part of the security arrangements, the officials said. The participating officers stressed the need for timely sharing of advance intelligence on the movement of suspicious persons and vehicles. They also discussed enhanced monitoring of social media, action against interstate criminal gangs operating in the National Capital Region (NCR), and measures to curb the illegal supply of firearms and narcotics.

Traffic management plans and restrictions during the Independence Day celebrations were also reviewed. The officers discussed measures to prevent unauthorised intrusion through interstate borders and agreed to maintain close coordination for the effective implementation of security arrangements.
