Delhi park assault: Police collect forensic evidence, examine security lapses

NEW DELHI: Investigators have collected forensic samples from Aastha Kunj Park after a 17-year-old girl was allegedly raped there by three men, police said Thursday. They are also examining security arrangements, including lighting and CCTV coverage in the secluded part of the park.

The girl helped a forensic team identify the locations where the alleged assault took place, according to a senior police officer. Samples have been sent for examination, and investigators are awaiting the results, including DNA profiling, the officer said.

Police said they had reviewed footage from more than 300 CCTV cameras in and around the park and used technical surveillance and local intelligence to identify the suspects. Three men have been arrested and sent to judicial custody.

The alleged assault took place on Monday after the girl and a friend visited Kalkaji Mandir. Police said the suspects claimed to be officers before separating the two and threatening them. The girl's friend called police after she told him what had happened.

Investigators are examining the suspects' phones and movements and checking whether similar incidents have been reported. This is a follow-up to the arrests reported earlier; the forensic examination has not yet established its conclusions.
