Delhi Division sets record with installation of Kavach system on 300 locomotives

In a major achievement for railway safety and modernization, the Delhi Division of Northern Railway has successfully completed the installation of the indigenous Kavach safety system on 300 locomotives at the Electric Loco Shed, Ghaziabad.

The milestone was achieved on May 16, 2026, with the successful completion of the 300th Kavach installation, marking a new record in the field of safety system implementation across Indian Railways.

Kavach, India’s indigenously developed automatic train protection system, has emerged as a key component in enhancing railway safety.

The Electric Loco Shed, Ghaziabad has earned recognition for completing the 100th, 200th, and 300th Kavach installations at the fastest pace in Indian Railways.

The shed had earlier created another record on September 10, 2024, by completing the Kavach installation on locomotive number 30623/WAP-7 within a single day — the fastest such installation recorded in Indian Railways.

Apart from achieving installation milestones, the Ghaziabad shed has also contributed significantly to technical training and knowledge sharing.

It organized seven one-day training programmes on Kavach installation procedures for officers and supervisors from different railway zones and sheds.

According to railway officials, a total of 309 officers and supervisors from 71 loco sheds across Indian Railways participated in these sessions. The training programmes focused on installation techniques, operational procedures, and technical best practices related to the Kavach system.

Officials said the initiative would help improve efficiency, reliability, and uniformity in Kavach implementation across various railway sheds in the country.

Railway authorities credited the achievement to the dedication, technical expertise, and teamwork of the officers and staff of the Electric Loco Shed, Ghaziabad. The accomplishment is being viewed as a significant step toward safer, smarter, and more modern train operations in India.

The achievement also highlights the growing success of India’s “Made in India” railway safety technologies and their increasing role in strengthening the country’s rail infrastructure.
