Death toll from overnight Russian strikes on Ukraine rises to 13, over 85 injured

At least 13 people have been killed and more than 85 others injured after Russia launched a large-scale overnight missile and drone attack on Ukraine, with the capital Kyiv suffering the heaviest damage.

Ukrainian authorities said the strikes hit residential buildings, hotels, medical facilities, and other civilian infrastructure across multiple districts of the city, leaving several people trapped under debris as rescue operations continued.

According to Ukrainian officials, emergency teams were deployed to dozens of affected locations, where firefighters and rescue personnel worked through the night to extinguish fires and search for survivors.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attacks and urged Ukraine's international partners to strengthen the country's air defence capabilities to protect civilians from continued missile and drone strikes.

Russia's Defence Ministry said the strikes targeted military and energy-related facilities and described the operation as retaliation for recent Ukrainian attacks on Russian infrastructure.

The latest assault marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict, as diplomatic efforts to end the war remain stalled and both sides continue cross-border attacks.
