CJP ends protest after Govt accepts demands

Ending their 36-day agitation, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday called off its protest “with immediate effect” and asked supporters at Jantar Mantar to return home. This call was made after the Government accepted their key demands, including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and assurances for FIRs withdrawal in Delhi and other BJP-ruled States.

The resignation of Pradhan was the CJP’s core demand over the NEET paper leak. The two sides will again meet after four weeks to work on broader reforms in the examination system.

CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, flanked by Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh at the press conference at the Constitution Club of India in New Delhi, shortly after the third round of talks between the two, said the CJP ended the protest in “good faith” that the Government would keep its word on the demands.

With one demand already met, the CJP spokespersons said the Government has assured them that police cases filed against students would be withdrawn, no action would be taken against them in future, and maximum compensation as per rules and regulations would be given to the families of students who died by suicide over the NEET paper leak.

“As the Government accepted all our demands after 36 days of protests, we appeal to everyone to peacefully withdraw from protest sites and go home,” Ranka said. Das said they have shared a draft of the demands with the Government and the Government will share a written guarantee by Tuesday. In a post on X, the CJP also added, “CJP’s 5-point exam reform charter will be considered by the Government and the CJP will meet with the Government to discuss these reforms further.”

Nadda said the CJP representatives came to the meeting with a written draft in which they presented certain points regarding the cases filed during the agitation. Nadda said a copy of the FIRs filed so far will be provided to the CJP and no action will be taken.

“The Government will give “honourable compensation” within rules to the families of the students who committed suicide after the NEET test cancellation and ensure withdrawal of all FIRs registered against the protesters,” he said

On the five-point charter presented by the CJP delegation, Nadda said the Government would “think deeply” about the suggestions for reforms in the education examination system. “This five-point charter, which you gave me, is related to reforms in education examinations. Regarding it, we have to say that we will think deeply about your charter for reforms in education examinations and, after talking to your delegation, we will try to do whatever we can. So these were their demands. I think the Government has sympathetically considered all the demands they had made and has also accepted them,” he added. Soon after the CJP called off their agitation, the Internet was restored in the area and entry gates for Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House and Central Secretariat metro stations were also reopened.

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in a press briefing congratulated the students for the victory saying, “Dharmendra Pradhan had to go, and it is good he went. But now, concrete steps will have to be taken by the government to change education system.” He also added that the RSS has captured Indian education system and thus “If Modiji is at fault, then RSS is at fault equally.”

The CJP has led a sit-in at Jantar Mantar since June 20, demanding accountability over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and irregularities in the CBSE’s on-screen marking process, besides seeking wider reforms in the conduct of public examinations.

The protests gained momentum after police on July 18 forcibly shifted activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar since June 28, to Safdarjung Hospital.
