Bhim Army chief seeks security for Jhansi family facing social boycott, threats

Bhim Army chief and Nagina MP Chandrashekhar Azad has demanded immediate police protection for a family in Samthar area of Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi district, alleging that they have faced social boycott, threats and assault after filing a complaint over the alleged molestation of their nine-year-old daughter.

According to the family, the alleged incident took place on July 28, following which they approached the police and initiated legal action.

The family alleged that a village panchayat was held on August 2 and ordered their social boycott. They claimed that their milk and water supplies were stopped and they were prevented from accessing local shops, agricultural fields and roads.

A second panchayat was held on August 3, where the family was allegedly pressured to forgive the accused and withdraw the complaint. The family said they were threatened after refusing to do so.

Azad said the family continued to face pressure and alleged that one of its members was “brutally beaten” on September 5.

Calling the matter “extremely serious and shameful”, Azad appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to intervene and ensure the family’s safety.

He demanded immediate police protection for the family and a comprehensive investigation into the original complaint as well as the alleged social boycott, threats, pressure to withdraw the case and assault.

Azad also sought strict legal action against those found responsible.
