Centre to run special train between Jammu and Haridwar on Somvati Amavasya (June 14–15)

The Centre has approved the operation of a special train service between Jammu and Haridwar on the occasion of Somvati Amavasya, scheduled for June 14–15, 2026, to manage the expected surge of pilgrims travelling for religious observances.
According to reports, the decision has been taken to facilitate smooth and convenient travel for devotees heading to Haridwar during the auspicious occasion, which is considered highly significant in Hindu tradition.
The special train is expected to operate from Jammu to Haridwar on June 14, with the return journey scheduled for June 15, allowing pilgrims to complete their religious visit and return safely.
Officials stated that the arrangement has been made in response to public demand and to ensure better crowd management during the peak pilgrimage period. The move is aimed at reducing congestion on regular train services and providing additional travel capacity.
Somvati Amavasya, which falls on a Monday when there is a new moon (Amavasya), is considered an especially sacred day for rituals and holy baths, particularly in pilgrimage centres like Haridwar.
The special service is expected to provide relief to thousands of devotees travelling between Jammu and Haridwar for the religious event.
