Calcutta HC grants meeting permission to TMC supremo

The Calcutta High Court on Thursday granted conditional approval to the Mamata Banerjee faction of the Trinamool Congress to hold a rally at Serampore in Hooghly district. The meeting will be held on Friday. Serampore is about 35 km northwest of Kolkata.
As the Bengal Police earlier refused to grant permission to hold the rally, the Mamata faction of the party moved the Court of Justice Saugato Bhattacharya, who, however, denied the party to organise a procession after the police administration submitted that it could lead to a massive traffic jam in the busy Grand Trunk Road. The Court only allowed the party to hold a meeting and also restricted its strength to 2000 participants.
Besides, the Court also asked the petitioners not to use any provocative slogan besides asking the police to deploy adequate forces to avoid any untoward incident.
