Cabinet approves Rs 14,115 crore for Delhi tunnel, Kanpur-Kabrai Highway projects

The Union Cabinet has approved two major highway infrastructure projects worth ₹14,115 crore to improve connectivity in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The projects include a six-lane tunnel linking the Dwarka Expressway to South Delhi and a greenfield access-controlled highway connecting Kanpur and Kabrai in Uttar Pradesh.

The initiatives are aimed at easing traffic congestion, strengthening logistics and boosting regional economic growth.

The 29-km Kanpur-Kabrai corridor will improve connectivity between central Uttar Pradesh and the Bundelkhand region, reducing travel time and supporting industrial and agricultural transportation.

Meanwhile, the 5-km underground tunnel in Delhi will provide seamless connectivity between the Dwarka Expressway, Indira Gandhi International Airport and South Delhi, helping decongest key routes in the national capital.

The government said the projects will generate employment during construction, improve freight movement and strengthen India's road infrastructure. The Delhi tunnel is expected to be completed in about five years, while the Kanpur-Kabrai highway is scheduled for completion in around two and a half years, subject to timely execution.
