Baloch Liberation Army claims attack on two Pakistan Coast Guard vessels; 13 killed

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for an attack on two Pakistan Coast Guard boats in the Jiwani coastal area of Balochistan's Gwadar district, alleging that 13 personnel were killed.
BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the group's maritime wing, the Hammal Maritime Defence Force (HMDF), carried out a coordinated attack on the two vessels, killing 13 personnel on the spot, according to a statement reported by IANS.
The group also released a two-minute video on its official media channel showing armed men aboard a boat. The BLA identified them as members of the HMDF and claimed they used a boat equipped with modern weapons to target two Coast Guard vessels patrolling waters off Jiwani, The Balochistan Post reported.
The claims have not been independently verified, and no response from Pakistani authorities was included in the reports.
According to the BLA, the HMDF aims to challenge the maritime operations of Pakistani forces along what the group describes as occupied coastlines.
Jeeyand Baloch said the unit was formally announced on April 13, 2026, as part of the organisation's broader strategy to expand its campaign for Baloch independence and protect Balochistan's maritime territory, coastline and resources.
The BLA described the Jiwani attack as the HMDF's second operation against the Pakistan Coast Guard.
In April, the group had claimed that three Pakistani naval personnel were killed in what it called its first maritime operation in the Jiwani area of Gwadar, when it announced the formation of its maritime wing.
