BJP got 1,700 more votes than 2023: MP CM after Datia Bypoll loss

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday said he accepted the people's verdict in the Datia bypoll, which the BJP lost to the Congress, but asserted that his party received 1,700 more votes than in the previous edition in 2023.

The Congress retained Datia after its candidate, Ghanshyam Singh, defeated the Bharatiya Janata Party's Ashutosh Tiwari by 6,016 votes. Singh received 66,757 votes, while Tiwari got 60,741 votes.

Pointing out that the Congress had also won the Datia seat in the last assembly elections, Yadav said, "This is a different matter. We secured 1,700 more votes than in the last assembly elections (in 2023). Along with the 2023 assembly elections, the BJP won all 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state. It is the first time the BJP achieved this feat since Independence."

The BJP also won the Budhni assembly by-election and subsequently wrested the Amarwara seat from the Congress in a bypoll, he told reporters. The BJP won all three seats in the recently concluded Rajya Sabha elections as well, Yadav added.

"In a democracy, everyone expresses their views during elections. We expressed our views, the Congress expressed its views. We accept the decisions made by the people. We hope to fight the upcoming elections with full force," Yadav said.
