BJP chief Nabin holds strategy meet ahead of 2027 assembly polls in 7 states

BJP president Nitin Nabin on Sunday, August 23, held an intensive meeting with party office bearers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi to discuss a range of organisational matters, with particular focus on strategy for high-stakes assembly elections due next year in seven states, including Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, sources said.
The meeting brought together newly-appointed office bearers, state unit presidents, state-in-charges and other senior functionaries of the party, sources said. BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santhosh was also present, with discussions covering ways to strengthen grassroots outreach and youth engagement, particularly in states heading to the polls next year. "Today, at the BJP headquarters, I participated in the meeting held with the newly appointed national office-bearers, state presidents, and state organisation general secretaries, and engaged in detailed discussions on various organisational matters," Nabin said in a post on X following the meeting.
Assembly elections are due in 2027 across Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat. Of these, the BJP currently governs five states, with Punjab under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Himachal Pradesh under the Congress. "It's a crucial meeting to discuss a range of organisational matters with prime focus on the party's preparations and strategy for the upcoming elections in states next year," a source told PTI.
Sunday's meeting followed Nabin's first gathering with all newly-appointed national office bearers a day earlier, which was also attended by former members of the party's national team. A separate meeting on Saturday, presided over by the BJP chief, brought together state unit presidents and organising secretaries.
Following Saturday's day-long proceedings, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the BJP headquarters and interacted with all 67 newly-appointed national office bearers in a session that lasted more than five hours. "Organisational meetings are all about new ideas and perspectives aimed at strengthening the Party and deepening connect with the people. Great interaction with fellow party colleagues and the new organisational team," Modi said in a post sharing photographs from the interaction. Sources said the prime minister listened attentively to each office bearer and offered guidance through the discussion. "During the interaction with the newly appointed office-bearers, the prime minister listened to each of them very attentively and offered guidance through his suggestions along the way. Modi urged the new office-bearers to increase outreach and connect with the youth, emphasising the need to stay grounded and engage in greater on-the-ground activity," a source told PTI.
Saturday's meeting of national office bearers also saw the party pass a resolution condemning the Congress for singing only two stanzas of Vande Mataram at its events, vowing to protect the "dignity and national status" of the song's full version. The 10-point resolution asserted that the BJP would launch a nationwide campaign highlighting the significance of Vande Mataram, while reminding the Congress that a resolution passed by its working committee cannot supersede India's constitutional institutions or laws.
The party also resolved to educate and mobilise citizens, particularly younger generations, to ensure that all six stanzas of the national song and its historical context are not forgotten, stating its intent to help future generations understand the "sacrifices, struggles and patriotic awakening with which Vande Mataram is inseparably associated." The resolution further stated: "A political compromise of 1937 cannot be elevated above the constitutional settlement of 1950 and legislation enacted by Parliament in 2026."
