Bishnoi aide deported, arrested
The Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) on Tuesday arrested a member of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang at Indira Gandhi International Airport following his deportation from Canada. Karamveer Singh, also known as Karamveer Deo, is a close associate of a jailed gangster and helped Anmol Bishnoi by providing support and a hiding place in the US, said Gaurav Yadav, Director General of Punjab Police. Anmol, Bishnoi’s younger brother, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after being deported from the US in November 2025. He had been on the run since 2022.
While investigating Anmol’s network overseas, police found Karamveer's involvement. On 3 September 2026, the AGTF issued a Look Out Circular for Singh. Security agencies were then alerted to his return. When his flight from Canada landed in New Delhi, an AGTF team arrested him at the airport.
Yadav said that Singh has a history of crimes, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, extortion, and offences under the Arms Act. “Further investigation is underway to reveal his wider criminal network and activities,” the DGP said. Investigators will also look into his links to international gangs and his role in other crimes.
Karamveer was charged in Punjab in 2012 for shooting a political figure. He spent several years in prison, was released on bail in 2019 after his father died, and then left India while the case was still pending. Investigators have identified three main areas to pursue. Firstly, they will investigate the claim that Karamveer offered accommodation and logistical assistance to Anmol in the US and will examine how this support was arranged. Secondly, they will study the previous cases, including the circumstances under which Singh left India and then stayed abroad. Thirdly, they will trace Singh’s associates, the flow of money, and any other role he may have played in offences connected to the Bishnoi network.
Police said they produce Singh in court and keep questioning him while he is in custody.
