Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma thanks Bhutan PM Tshering Tobgay for Assam visit

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday thanked Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay for his visit to Assam and expressed confidence that the relationship between Assam and Bhutan would grow stronger in the coming days.

Responding to a social media post by the Bhutanese Prime Minister, Sarma said Assam deeply values its multifaceted partnership with Bhutan. He added that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ties between Assam and Bhutan would be further strengthened.

Earlier, Tobgay had shared details of his meetings with Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during his visit to Guwahati. He stated that both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the longstanding and close ties between Bhutan and Assam.

The Bhutanese Prime Minister arrived in Guwahati on Monday and was welcomed by the Assam Governor and Chief Minister at Lok Bhavan. Discussions during the visit focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and strengthening regional ties between Bhutan and India, especially in the Northeast region.

Assam Cabinet Minister Atul Bora also welcomed the Bhutanese delegation and highlighted the historic relationship between Assam and Bhutan, describing it as a partnership built on mutual trust, cultural ties and people-to-people connections.

Officials said the visit is expected to further boost cooperation in areas such as cultural exchange, economic growth and regional collaboration between the two neighbouring regions.
