6 killed, 13 rescued after under-construction building collapses in Haryana's Ambala

At least six people were killed and 13 others rescued after a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Haryana's Ambala on Sunday, leading to a major rescue operation.

The building came down around 3 pm in Dhulkot village, trapping several workers beneath the debris. Police and district administration teams reached the site and began rescue efforts with the assistance of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), fire brigade and ambulance services.

Ambala SP Ajit Singh Shekhawat confirmed the deaths and said 13 people had been pulled out of the debris. “Our immediate priority right now is the rescue work. If any negligence is found in this matter, legal action will be taken,” Shekhawat said.

Officials initially believed that 15 to 20 people might be trapped under the debris, though the exact number was not immediately known.

The SDM said 12 people had been identified at that point, including the victims. Rescue teams continued their search through the debris as the operation went on.

Civil Hospital Medical Officer Dr Rohit said the hospital was informed about the incident around 4 pm. “Initially, 13 patients were brought to the hospital, out of which four were declared brought dead. Two of them later died. The remaining patients had injuries that were not severe, and necessary investigations were conducted. Their treatment is currently underway,” he said.  (with inputs from media organisations)
