Ahmedabad railway track cleaned up

On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway organised a large-scale ‘Swachh Track Mega Campaign’ today as part of the nationwide cleanliness initiatives. Led by Ved Prakash, Divisional Railway Manager, Ahmedabad, the campaign witnessed the active participation of more than 10,000 railway officials, employees and other participating groups across major stations and railway premises of the division.

As part of the campaign, nearly 3,000 kilometres of railway track were cleaned in a single day, a distance broadly equivalent to the distance from Kanyakumari to Kashmir. The simultaneous participation of railway officials and employees across different parts of the division gave the cleanliness drive the character of a large-scale collective effort based on public participation and shared responsibility.

The campaign commenced with a cleanliness pledge administered to railway officers, employees, sanitation personnel and members of Scouts & Guides. Thereafter, Station Masters, Supervisors, cleaning staff and other railway employees at various stations actively participated in cleaning the railway track and station premises from their respective home stations towards the adjoining stations.

Special cleanliness drives were simultaneously undertaken at around 140 railway stations, including Ahmedabad, Sabarmati, Viramgam, Maliya Miyana, Radhanpur, Dhrangadhra, Mehsana, Palanpur, Bhuj, Gandhidham, Asarva and Himmatnagar, as well as at railway yards, colonies, health units and trackside areas across Ahmedabad Division.

All cleanliness activities in track and trackside areas were carried out by adhering to prescribed safety standards and operational precautions.

The Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnav, had recently called upon all Zonal Railways, Divisions and various units of the Ministries to make cleanliness a broad-based public movement.
