ABVP students protest at Delhi Civic Centre over Satya Niketan collapse

Around 150-200 ABVP students gathered at the Civic Centre on Sunday to protest against the building collapse in south Delhi's Satya Niketan, police said.

The protesters entered the Civic Centre through Gate No. 5 and demonstrated outside the main building. They raised slogans and criticised the functioning of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), police said.

A senior police officer said the situation turned tense when some protesters tried to enter the main Civic Centre building forcibly.

"During the protest, some demonstrators attempted to forcibly enter the main Civic Centre building, following which jostling broke out between the protesters and police personnel," the officer said.

Police detained around 15 students and took them to Kamla Market police station. Action under the Delhi Police Act was being initiated against them, the officer said.

The other protesters were later removed from the spot.

Police said the situation at the Civic Centre was under control and no further disturbance had been reported.

The demonstration was held in response to the building collapse in Satya Niketan in southwest Delhi, which left five people dead and several others injured.  (with inputs from PTI)
