Abhishek Banerjee questions police during late-night search at Kolkata residence

A late-night police search at the Kolkata residence of Trinamool Congress leader and MP Abhishek Banerjee triggered political controversy after he reportedly questioned investigators about whether his executive assistant, Sumit Roy, was hiding at the premises. The search operation was carried out by a joint team of police personnel and security forces.

According to reports, officers searched Banerjee’s Kalighat residence for several hours in connection with an ongoing investigation involving Roy. During the operation, Banerjee was seen engaging with officials and seeking clarification over the purpose of the search and the allegations surrounding his aide.

The development comes amid increasing scrutiny of political figures and their associates in West Bengal. Investigators were reportedly attempting to locate Roy as part of a broader probe, while Banerjee has maintained that he is cooperating with authorities.

The search has intensified the political confrontation between the ruling establishment and the Trinamool Congress, with party leaders questioning the timing and intent of the operation. Authorities, however, have stated that the action was part of an ongoing investigation and conducted in accordance with legal procedures.
